Honor Flight Syracuse, Inc. is an all-volunteer organization. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • helping with flight departures or “Welcome Home” ceremonies
  • assembling backpacks for veterans
  • speaking to outside groups as part of Speakers’ Bureau (you must have flown as a guardian or other volunteer)
  • working at our booths at special events
  • serving on a committee such as Fundraising, Publicity, or Community Outreach
  • working on various clerical tasks that can be done from home

How big are your shoes?

This can only happen with generous support from Syracuse’s private community. Honor Flight accepts no government funding, nor partisan political sponsorships. We do seek the support of individuals and corporate partners, even as we develop broad community fund raising programs with organizations such as VFW and American Legion Posts, fraternal business groups, scouts, churches, synagogues, etc. Special attention and curriculum guidance is being directed to schools, and those history or social studies classrooms where WWII Veterans are invited in as speakers.

Close working relationships have developed with local veterans organizations including Syracuse’s VA Medical Center. Incorporated as a NY not-for-profit, Honor Flight Syracuse, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) public charity, and all donations are tax-deductible to the extent determined by law.

(Guardian travel fees are payments for service and do not typically qualify for tax deductions.)

Our urgent objective is to accommodate local WWII veterans who otherwise would never visit their own memorial. Honor Flight is our way of paying a small tribute to those who gave so much to us – everything we have today – our very way of life. As one observer put it, “They were all just kids. And all they did was… save the world.”

At Honor Flight we are committed to providing these heroes with, quite literally, a safe and memorable trip of a lifetime.

Thank you for joining us with your generous support!
