Honor Flight Syracuse – Mission Update
Good morning Honor Flight Syracuse friends,
The health and safety of the veterans we serve is Honor Flight Syracuse’s top priority, and with that in mind, we made the decision to pause Mission 15, which was to be held in May 2020. At the time, we were hopeful for our Fall Mission.
Since then, we have been in close contact with Honor Flight Network, which has been closely monitoring guidance from the health authorities concerning COVID-19 both here and in Washington, DC. In accordance with Honor Flight Network policy, Honor Flight Syracuse has made the difficult decision to suspend all planned missions in 2020. There will be no Fall flight this year. While this is deeply saddening, it is just not prudent for Honor Flight to risk the health and safety of those we seek to honor at this point.
If you are a veteran or guardian who has been planning to travel on Mission 15, you will receive communication regarding the trip, at this point planned for April 2021. We will continue to accept deceased veterans to be honored with a Flags of Our Heroes Ceremony on the next planned Mission.
We are deeply appreciative of the service and sacrifice all veterans made for this country, and as a board, we are exploring ideas to safely honor them here at home. WCNY aired a broadcast on Memorial Day in partnership with Honor Flight, celebrating our veterans and telling a few of their stories. If you missed it, you can see a replay on their website. As our plans develop, please keep reading our emails and follow us on Facebook to learn more.
Thank you all for your dedication and understanding. We look forward to the day when we can once again gather at the Syracuse Airport to celebrate our veterans.
