Honor Flight Syracuse recognizes you, an American military veteran, for your sacrifices and achievements by flying you to Washington, DC to visit YOUR memorial. There is no cost to you.
Veterans are flown based on their application date, however adjustments may be made by HFS based on the veteran’s health status. Among the applicants, top priority is currently given to World War II veterans and all other veterans with terminal illness. Our next priority is to Korean War, then Vietnam War veterans and then veterans of other service periods. For what you and your comrades have given to us, please view participating in an Honor Flight mission as a small token of our continuing respect and appreciation.
Each veteran designates a guardian to travel with them to provide assistance and help ensure a safe, memorable and rewarding experience. You may invite the Guardian of your choice, as long as they are capable of meeting your physical needs. Our top priority is your safety for the day. Who will be selected as a guardian is the sole responsibility of the program director, who bases that decision on a number of factors. Guardians are invited to make a donation to help offset the costs of the mission. If a veteran does not have a guardian to bring, Honor Flight Syracuse will secure a volunteer guardian.
Thanks to our team of volunteer medical personnel, we can accommodate veterans on our missions with a variety of health issues, including those wheelchair-bound, on oxygen, etc. Prior to the mission, our medical team reviews and discusses with each veteran any health issues and accommodations needed. They also travel on each mission to ensure the health and safety of our veterans throughout the day.
For veterans that are unable to physically travel on a mission, we offer several other ways of honoring their service through our Honor Everywhere program. This program provides the veteran with an experience similar to traveling on a mission to Washington, DC, either in the confines of their home or through participation in a mission Welcome Home ceremony at the airport.
