Jeff Bastable has been a healthcare management executive, a fundraising professional, and an active community volunteer for almost 50 years. His career has focused on executive level hospital management, medical group management, and managed care. He has served in various managerial positions at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, as CEO of The Westerly Hospital in Rhode Island, and as an executive in managed care at Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Univera Health Care, and Health Services Association (PHP). As a fundraiser, he was responsible for major gifts for the American Cancer Society in Upstate NY, has held numerous consultancy positions, and offered coaching and mentoring services to new foundation and nonprofit fundraising professionals. His volunteer work has included a life-long role as a volunteer, board member and chair of United Ways. Other board work has included Loretto Foundation, Boy Scouts, and the Syracuse University Varsity Club where he served as President and was named a Letter Winner of Distinction in 2008. Also, he has been a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board of the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University for 25 years. For eight years, he served on the faculty of SUNY Upstate Medical University in Medical Humanities. He is a past Executive-In-Residence and Instructor in the Sloan Program of Health Services Administration at Cornell University and served on the board of a for-profit start up, Active Global Care Givers, LLC, based in Singapore. Appointed by the Governor of New York state, he currently serves on the Selective Service Board.
A native of Upstate New York, Jeff earned an undergraduate and graduate degree from Syracuse University and an MBA from Cornell University. He is married with two children, who are veteran officers, United States Navy. His wife, Susan, is Emeritus Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Nursing at Le Moyne College and is the author of multiple editions of three professional textbooks. She is a volunteer and board member for a number of healthcare and community service organizations. Jeff and Susan are the recipients of the 2022 Onondaga Historical Association Medal, the 2020 Distinguished Friend of Veterans Award, and the 2018 St. Joseph’s The Worker Award.
