John Henderson – Memorable Day with Dad
“His most memorable day with his dad”
Korean War veteran John Henderson flew Mission 10 with son Dana by his side as guardian. John passed away this summer at the age of 94. Read how the Honor Flight touched John, Dana and their whole family in this moving letter from Debbie Henderson.
“I wanted to tell you that my husband’s uncle recently died at 94. At the funeral I asked our aunt if she minded if we donated to Honor Flight since I’m a volunteer and he had gone on a mission. She said certainly not. Our cousin, who was his guardian, overheard and told me how much he and Uncle Johnny enjoyed that day. He couldn’t say enough good things about the organization. During the eulogy he spoke about that being his most memorable day with his dad. He told what they did, what they saw together, and then how much it meant to our uncle. He explained mail call and then read the letter he had written to his dad for it. It was truly from the heart of a son that admired his dad as a man and a veteran of the Korean War. He said the veterans were treated as they should be, like heroes, all day long and that no detail was overlooked. I was proud to be associated with Honor Flight. Thank you to everyone that works together to make the missions so meaningful!
