We salute a Battle of the Bulge veteran at age 100
We call them “Centenarian Salutes,” and who deserves a salute more than a veteran who has lived a full century? Honor Flight Syracuse celebrated the 100th birthday of WWII veteran David Detlor on January 26. HFS volunteer Dawn McPeak visited David at his home and brought our HFS birthday sign and a patriotic quilt made by the Thread Bears Guild. His actual birthday was January 25th but one of our winter snowstorms postponed the celebration for a day. David was able to retrieve his uniform from his cabinet to show her, proudly noting the blue stripe on his hat that indicated he was in the infantry. He happily donned this hat for a photo op.

David served in the US Army from 1944-45. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge where he was severely injured and was hospitalized for many months. We thank you, David, for your service to our country!
